Salewa Men's Mountain Trainer Hiking Shoe,Smoke/Acid Lemon,11.5 M US Review

If you are reading this review you've probably considered Salewa's Alpine Trainer as well as this Mountain Trainer. I have tried both and although they look a lot alike they fit much differently. If you have a narrow foot go with the Alpine. If you have feet like mine, wide across the forefoot with a narrow heel, go with the Mountain. I have tried on at least a dozen hikers over the past year and these fit my foot better than the rest. Usually I have to go with a wide width then find the heel is too wide for me which leads to heel slip.

Although I bought these for hiking I may use them primarily as a casual shoe. Why? Most places I hike have rough trails and although the sole of this shoe is stiff enough the heel of the outsole is quite narrow. It measures just under 3", the narrowest of any shoe or boot I've seen for hiking. Their Mountain Trainer boot has a heel more than a quarter of an inch wider while most heels in a 12 are 3 1/2". Also, the two layer insoles are more of a gimmick than useful. For these reasons I give it four stars.

Pentax 62599 9x28 DCF LV Binocular - Black Review

I own Swavorski 8.5xELs,10x50SLCs, Leica Duovids, Celestron 7x50s and now the Pentax 9x28 DCF LV. My day of birding with these instead of the 8.5s was surprisingly fun. Here are the Pros and Cons.
Pros:
Well chosen power of 9x make the binos useful for many situations.
Sharp center field suitable for serious birding and even looking at star clusters and moon. Edge performance not objectionable. These could be used as workhorse binos although 32mm objectives or more are better - all else being equal.
VERY nice click stops eye cups and ample eye relief for eyeglass wearers like myself.
Close focus for butterflies ~6ft
VERY comfortable apparent field of view (don't feel like your looking in a tunnel) and actual field of view.
No eyestrain after hours of birding - for which I'm sensitive.

Cons:
Stiff focus is noticeable and may cause a "misfire" focus from time to time.
Light weight may not be a positive in some birders hands - but this is an issue for all small binos. I found balance and size fine for my hands which are average for a man.

I'll be birding with these binos on bicycle. Seems a shame to leave them in a glove compartment. And they can slip in a water bottle cage. 5 stars.

I use this for selling at a farmers' market. I have to transport and set it up by myself. I am 72yo and use a cane, and still I can handle this table. It is a bit awkward to get in and out of my Honda Element, but I can do it.

I need to keep a good grasp on the handle, as it tends to loosen and come undone, but if I pay attention there is not a problem.

It sets up and folds down easily.

Under Armour Ua Stride Switch Sunglasses Review

These sunglasses are outstanding. they have excellent peripheral coverage, come with black and brown lenses which each have protectors, that fit into a case for the sunglasses themselves. All very high quality materials and very well put together. The sunglasses box is a normal size box, though the box it came in from Amazon was about 7 times too big so there was a lot of waste there. I only wish the lenses were a little taller, 3-6mm more would have been perfect from top to bottom, but since I use these for driving it was the peripheral vision that was most important. I've noticed they fog sometimes near the bridge of the nose, but it clears up quickly so it hasn't been any big deal.

Petzl Sirocco Ultralight Climbing Helmet (Orange/Size 1) Review

I have not used the helmet in the field yet but it is so light that you don't even feel it on your pack or on your head. I bought this to have an "always carry" helmet for off trail scrambling in the mountains. I have a Black Diamond hardshell helmet but I left it at home most of the time due to its weight. This one ways half of the Black Diamond so no reason at all to not carry it on all outings where you might need head protection. The main compromise that I can see over a traditional helmet is that the adjustability and padding are not quite as good. Also the straps are quite a bit thinner than normal. That said the magnetic buckle is a cool feature that really works. The reason I could not give 5 stars - the helmet is ugly and I wish it came in another more subdued colour. The orange is way too bright for my tastes. I wish they had a grey or black version!! If you are looking for a light, super-durable helmet (I already did the "stand test" on it!!) this is your next helmet.

Less recoil equals faster follow up shots. The gas block has two main features: adjustability from the front of the block and infinite adjustment by a detent locking mechanism. The block mechanism consists of a set screw and a detent button. The set screw regulates the amount of gas that flows through the block. It can be adjusted repeatedly in the field without the need of using LoctiteTM. You can regulate the amount of gas flow by unscrewing (opening) and screwing (closing) the set screw. Once you obtain the proper setting, the screw is locked into place by a detent. To adjust the set screw you push in the detent, use a Hex Key to turn the screw to the proper setting, and release the set screw. The screw is locked in place by the detent. It will not turn (move) until the detent is manually pressed in.

I put this on an 11.5 AR that was monumentally over gassed. I was able to tame it down to run with my M4-1000 silencer.

I'd give it 5 stars if it were more able to fine tune the cyclic rate/gas flow. It seemed like I struggled to get a sweet spot that would run with and without the can... so I just dedicated the can to the 11.5 and am running great.
