  • P.R.O. Barrier WxB 2?Layer stretch fabric for superior waterproof, breathable protection
  • Primaloft® insulation provides warmth without bulk
  • Innovative power band secures front of shoe cover under toes
  • Taiwan
  • 45% polyester 35% nylon 17% polyurethane 1% Cordura® nylon 1% Kevlar® aramid 1% elastane; Use simple detergents with no additives; Never use detergents with fabric softeners, perfumes or any additive type product; The general rule of thumb is the simpler the better.; Many detergents with additives leave "surfactants" behind on a fabric's fibers that inhibit the technical performance; Typically the best detergents to use will have "Clear" or "Free" in their names; Don't pour the detergent directly onto the clothing, put it in the washer first, when you start the water; If something is not functionally working, but is not dirty, try rinsing it twice in warm to hot water; This will help get rid of the harmful surfactants. Read the care content label; On the inside of your garment, or on the hangcard, there are instructions for the care of that individual piece; On garments this will be on a side seam or back seam label. Follow those directions; On finer fabrics, use a "Gentle" cycle. Close all zippers, attach "hook and loop" closures on gloves You can use the dryer, carefully; If you use a dryer be sure to use a lower / warm heat setting (Do NOT use a commercial dryer or a "Hot" setting); This will often restore the fabric and help the water and wind repellent qualities; If in doubt, hang the clothing to dry.

Product Description

We understand that our investment choices are like our children -- they're the best and can do no wrong. However, deep down, we know that this isn't really true. Case in point are your spring/summer mountain bike shoes. While their lightweight, ventilated design was a godsend in the sweltering heat of summer, the same features dig an icy grave for your feet in the winter. And that's where the Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Softshell WxB MTB Shoe Covers come in. Smarter than your shoes, these covers provide the utmost in protection for your feet. Windproof, waterproof, insulated, the list goes on and on -- your feet need help, and the P.R.O. covers are here to provide it. It's rare that we can say that every conceivable detail of something has been covered, but Pearl Izumi really did its homework. Constructed from the P.R.O. Barrier WxB fabric, the covers benefit from this material's insulating warmth. And we're not just talking about toasty, the material is also waterproof and windproof to keep you comfortable and dry. Even further along these lines, Pearl has fully-taped all of the covers' internal seams. Meanwhile, the Primaloft fabric aids in the insulation, but more importantly, the breathing and wicking of the covers. Basically, Pearl has gone to great lengths to perfect the science of letting moisture escape while keeping moisture out. This philosophy has been incorporated everywhere, even the fit. Each cover features an anatomic paneling that keeps the cover close to the shoe. And when you take into account the two hook-and-loop closures and the Powerband securing at the toes, you start to see the magic at work. Since the covers conform to your shape so well, water can't even infiltrate from the ankle cuff -- typically the Achilles' heel for protective covers. Even at the sole of the covers, Pearl has incorporated Kevlar to eliminate any wear from walking. The sole also butterflies open for a simplified entry and exit. Pearl Izumi has also gone to the length of add...

Pearl Izumi Pro Softshell WxB MTB Shoe Cover, Black, XX-Large Review

I live in Arizona but it does get cold here in the northern part of the state. I've used a couple of different booties and my feet have always gotten uncomfortably cold/frozen on those morning rides when the mercury gets south of 40 degrees. I decided to take a chance on these shoe covers and save the 120+ dollars compared to the price of dedicated winter shoes.

I have used these on two rides so far. Both with temperatures in the low 20s. One ride was almost four hours, the other was 1.5. The long ride was primarily slow speed riding on very technical terrain with some hike-a-bike and go back and try it again "sessions". So while the temperature was low (16 degrees and snowing at the start) there was little issue with wind and lots of opportunities to get the blood in the feet flowing by walking. My feet stayed comfortably warm the entire time. The 2nd ride was more cross country - fast (more windchill) and on the bike the entire time. On that ride my feet did get chilly by the end, but were NOWHERE near the uncomfortable blocks of ice they usually become. My feet were warmer at 20 degrees than they had ever been at much higher temps with other booties.

A size large slid very easily over my size 43 mtb shoes. Secures with velcro instead of a zipper. The high ankle provides okay coverage if you splash through a water crossing, but are not sealed at the top in any way. Seem durable - granite boulders tried to rip them a few times with no luck. Any cover feels bulky to some extent, but these are light and I didn't give them another thought after a few pedal revolutions. There is a little strap at the front that hooks under the shoe to help keep the cover down over your toes.

I'm glad I found these for $80, but would buy again at full retail price if I needed to. Recommended. Particularly if your really cold season is short and not too brutal. Why spend $200+ on winter shoes when you can get these?
