Petzl Sirocco Ultralight Climbing Helmet (Orange/Size 1) Review

I have not used the helmet in the field yet but it is so light that you don't even feel it on your pack or on your head. I bought this to have an "always carry" helmet for off trail scrambling in the mountains. I have a Black Diamond hardshell helmet but I left it at home most of the time due to its weight. This one ways half of the Black Diamond so no reason at all to not carry it on all outings where you might need head protection. The main compromise that I can see over a traditional helmet is that the adjustability and padding are not quite as good. Also the straps are quite a bit thinner than normal. That said the magnetic buckle is a cool feature that really works. The reason I could not give 5 stars - the helmet is ugly and I wish it came in another more subdued colour. The orange is way too bright for my tastes. I wish they had a grey or black version!! If you are looking for a light, super-durable helmet (I already did the "stand test" on it!!) this is your next helmet.
