hello all. i have been trolling for about 35 yrs. i have used everything from concret blocks thrown over the back of the boat with about 20 ft of rope to these easytrolls. i used the ones with shear pins. they worked great but sheared way to many pins. i,ve used 5 gallon buckets, and they just wouldnt slow me down. i,ve used the solid aluminum plates, i had to many times forgetting to raise the plates and start giving it the throttle. it always bent the plate bringing that fishing trip to an end. because after the plate was bent so far up the plate just wouldnt slow me down enough to catch walleyes. and its a major job to bend the plates back down to where they will work again. the best way i found to do this, was to remove them from the boat, and put them under my motorhome and use a 10 ton hydrolic jack, set the jack on the plate and jack up the motorhome. i have even used the drift socks. they did work but was just a hassle to have to get out on the bow to put them out and bring them back in. so far with the easytroller i havent bent the plate. and i have started to take off with the plate down. the lower half just tilts up and no bent plate. these are just the best trolling plates out there. they lower and raise with the pull of a cord. i just stop and pull the cord to trip the plate, then just go in reverse untill the plate locks down. when im done i just stop and pull the cord to trip the plate, then go in forward gear to raise and lock the plate in the up position. i dont think you will be dissapointed in these plates, if you just lower and raise them the way i do. i would reccomend them to anyone that wants to slow there boat down for trolling. i have a 21 ft cobia with a 350 vortec 320 hp. the slowest it will go is still over 4 mph. with this plate i can get below 1.5 mph. and thats as slow as i,ve ever wanted to troll. so good luck, now go slow down and catch some walleye.....sherman....
