This is my first ever comment about an Amazon product, I hope I do a good job describing this jacket.

I purchased this jacket to face the moderate midwest winter. With mercury dipping to 5 F along with frequent snow showers, it is imperative to have a sturdy jacket. My main reason to purchase this water resistant Columbia jacket was because it came with a hood at this price ($80), I decided to buy this after researching a long time on this website and other retail websites as well.

This Columbia product was unavailable at the time of purchase in the usual size large, so I had to opt for a Tall Large size. I am 5'8" tall and this jacket covers the pockets of my jeans just enough to keep my wallet and cellphone warm. The outer fabric looks tough enough to take few nasty scratches, I haven't tested it though!

The fit is very comfortable considering the amount of insulation (about 5.3 ounces) that it has. It is not portable though. Hanging it from a rack will take up the space of two or three items of normal clothing, though that might be true with any insulated jacket! The zippers of lower pockets are angled nicely to allow hands to slide in without discomfort and these pockets have ample room to store your effects.The cuffs are of velcro type-it is really important so that cold air doesn't seep in- and the velcro type is tough enough to last a long time. The jacket does its job well by not allowing air to seep in from the waist region, it is indeed a cozy jacket.

The sleeves flex alright in spite of insulation, giving me a feeling of unhindered arm motion. The breast pocket zippers are vertical and enable easy access to any item that one might store in the pockets. I love the detachable drawstring hood because it fits my head snugly, I usually have my earphones on when I travel. These act well to keep my ears warm. A word of caution, the hood will restrict peripheral vision. The main zipper extends snugly up to my chin which makes a scarf's job redundant. This is a nifty bonus. Though, extending the main zipper fully obstructs neck movement, one has to be extra careful when crossing intersections on foot or on a bike!

I have ventured outside on foot in temperature range of 5-15 F frequently with only a t-shirt, this jacket and jeans on. The omni-heat feature helps in containing heat within the jacket, so I can save precious time while putting my clothes on!
Also there is a nylon mesh-type pocket on the inner right side of the jacket (8" wide and 9" deep) that is large enough to store a large book or a tablet pc.

My only qualm is that the color of all the zippers is ash gray and not cherry red as projected by the picture on Amazon's website. I would have liked the latter color scheme better.

I have to say that it is a high quality product from Columbia.
